Palmerston is relatively new, having been established in 1981 as a satellite of Darwin, and boasting two major shopping centres, two sporting clubs and a state of the art cinema complex. It also boasts the opportunity to join just about any sport or group imaginable.

Palmerston’s population reached 25,000 and was declared a city in 2000. Since then, the community has continued to flourish with an expected population of 40,000 by 2015.
